What Should You Wear For A First Date?

 

The question of what to wear on a first date always comes up as soon as an occasion is mentioned, and it’s not just the females asking this any more! Gents are often wanting to make a good impression too. Now, it is important to present yourself well, because good impressions do still count, but as to what you wear, that depends on a few things.

First of all, you need to wear something that you are comfortable in, and that is appropriate for the activity that you will be doing. If you are going to be paddling a canoe, then you won’t want to be wearing high heels, or a short tight dress, if you are a female, so you do need to know ahead of time what you are going to be doing.

I’m all in favor of a smart but casual appearance for a first date, not going to a top class restaurant, since who knows whether that is something your date would be comfortable with, and whether they would say anything to you ahead of time too. Yes, it is nice to eat in top class restaurants, but for a first date, I don’t think it is necessary at all. Moving up to a classy restaurant meal is something that you can look forward to doing when you know one another better. This also means that you do not need to have an expensive outfit for this first date, just something that is comfortable, and represents who you are.

Now if the first date is at a beach, then you might want to find out ahead of time whether your date is comfortable swimming in the sea, or whether they would just prefer a stroll along the beach. Be aware that not everyone enjoys swimming, and not everyone is comfortable going swimming with someone they hardly know. Similarly, taking someone to a sports event might be something you will enjoy, but are you sure about this for your date? Maybe they are too shy to tell you it is not something they are likely to enjoy.

Whatever plans you make, be sure to tell your date what to expect so that they can dress appropriately for the occasion. No one likes to turn up wearing something that is out of line for the occasion, so make sure you are explicit about the necessary attire for your date – it will help.
